What is the Hamilton-Wenham Cultural Council?

A group of interested residents, appointed by the Select Board, in order to inform the public, qualify applications, and dispense funds allocated by the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC), a state agency. The budget of the MCC is determined by the state legislature and the MCC’s source of funds is the Megabucks lottery game.

What is the purpose of the council?

Its purpose is to re-grant state funds for community-based arts, humanities, and interpretive science projects and activities to benefit the residents of Hamilton and Wenham. Grant decisions are subject to final approval by the MCC.

Who qualifies to apply for funding?

Massachusetts based individuals, artist, non-profit community groups, cultural institutions, and schools with a particular activity related to the arts, humanities, or interpretive sciences and has public benefit may apply.

Regional Council

Any town may establish a local cultural council, and with the approval of the council, may establish a regional cultural council. Local cultural councils shall consist of at least five and not more than twenty-two members to be appointed by Selectboard. Regional cultural councils shall consist of an equal number of members to be appointed from town within the consortium in the manner herein described. Law >>
