Overview

The Town has the Single Stream recycling method also known as ‘No Sort’ recycling. Now residents have the convenience to commingle recyclable paper and mixed containers, such as glass, cans, and plastics in one container for easier collection.

Residents can use any container up to 35 gallons (a regular trash barrel) clearly labeled “Recycling” and bring it to the curb by 7 a.m. on your regular recycling collection day. The container can contain mixed paper (newspapers, magazines, cardboard, junk mail), glass, aluminum and tin cans, and plastic (1-7), but should not exceed 50 lbs. If it does, please use a second container labeled “Recycling.”

Tips on Proper Recycling

One of the ways we as a community reduce our waste management costs is by recycling. Casella, our waste hauler, sells our recycled materials on the world market, and this offsets the cost of burning our trash. The more we recycle (and the more we compost), the lower our trash hauling costs will be.

But the recycling market is in a state of turmoil now as our normal trading partners (China) have refused to accept dirty recyclables. If we give Casella clean stuff, they spend less time combing through it, and can sell it for more $ 🙂

What you put in the bin matters! Do your part, Recycle Smart.

Recycle Smart Guide

Food, liquids, and plastic bags can ruin entire loads of recyclables. When plastic bags, clothing, ropes and hoses are tossed in the recycle bin, they get tangled in the sorting machine. Please do not put recycled materials in plastic bags
