The Town Clerk recently did a “mass inactivation” of 1,322 voters who haven’t returned the 2024 town census.

More than 800 forms were not returned and every voter on the unreturned forms was marked inactive in the voting system. That means the next time they show up to vote they will need to prove town residency.

“The census is the only way of knowing who lives here and, therefore, can vote here,” Town Clerk Carin Kale recently told the Select Board.

Every voter marked inactivated will get a confirmation card in the mail to be signed and returned for proof of residency and restored as an eligible voter. This is how a Town Clerk protects the integrity of the voter list.
