The Hamilton Conservation Commission currently has vacant volunteer positions, and town officials are urging residents to consider serving in this vital role. Without enough members to reach a quorum at their meetings, the Commission is unable to vote on make key decisions that affect the town’s natural resources and conservation efforts.
The Conservation Commission is responsible for administering the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act and the Hamilton Wetlands Bylaw. It plays a crucial role in reviewing permit applications, protecting wetlands, and promoting sustainable land use throughout the community.
“This is an important opportunity for civic-minded residents to get involved and help protect Hamilton’s natural environment,” said Bethany Barstow, Hamilton Conservation Agent. “Without a quorum, the Commission’s work is effectively stalled, which can delay projects and impact the town’s ability to enforce environmental protections.”
No prior experience is required—just a willingness to learn and a commitment to environmental stewardship. The Commission meets twice a month and training will be provided to new members.
Interested residents are encouraged to contact the Town Manager’s Office with an application and letter of interest.
