Please keep in mind, especially during the fall season with an increase in school open houses, charity events and political advertising, the Town by-laws (Chapter X1, Section 2) and the Massachusetts State Ethics Commission restrict the display of various signs without the approval of the Select Board on public property (this includes near sidewalks).

When possible our Department of Public Works (DPW) workers and Police Officers try to move the signs at sidewalks 10-feet toward the private property they are closest too or are tasked with removing the signs.

This week, following resident complaints to the Town Manager’s Office, signs in violation of this by-law were removed. The removed signs will be stored temporarily in the stable building at the Patton Homestead. Any resident who has paid for and put signs up, which may have been taken down, is welcome to come to the Homestead Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. to retrieve them. Signs will discarded following the Nov. 5th election.
