Textile Recycling
Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection bans the disposal of textiles. This includes clothing, footwear, bedding, curtains, fabric, and fabric scraps of all sizes, as long as they are clean and dry. By recycling textiles, we contribute to a greener community. Please do not place textiles in your curbside trash. Textiles must be recycled or donated to prevent fines and contribute to the town’s sustainability goals.
Textiles make up a significant portion of landfill waste and can take years to decompose. By recycling textiles, we can divert these materials from landfills, reduce pollution, and help conserve valuable resources. Many textiles can be repurposed, donated, or recycled into new products Even if your textiles are worn, torn, or stained, they can still be recycled or donated to a textile recycler. These items can be repurposed, recycled, or reused, helping to reduce waste and support sustainability efforts.
Textiles include, but are not limited to:
- Clothing (all types, from worn-out to gently used)
- Shoes and sneakers
- Bedding, towels, and curtains
- Rugs, blankets, and linens
- Fabric scraps and upholstery
The Town of Hamilton has contracted a textile recycling program through the Epilepsy Foundation of New England. Schedule a collection online.
