Info & Schedule

Each street receives trash collection services on the same day each week. Click here for the collection schedule by street. Click here for the master 2025 calendar. During a holiday week, your trash pickup will be delayed by one day.

To ensure your trash is picked up on schedule, have your black trash bin curbside by 7 A.M. on your designated pick-up day. If your trash is put out later than 7 A.M., haulers are not required to return for late pickups. If you are experiencing problems with your trash collection, or are uncertain why a particular item was not taken, please contact Casella at 978-548-4427

Trash Bin Guidelines

  • Each household is provided one 35-gallon black trash bin for weekly use.
  • The lid must be closed completely with no trash sticking out, and the bin should not exceed 50 lbs in weight.
  • Bins that don’t meet these requirements will be left behind with an orange “rejected” notice.

Excess Trash

Blue Bags: If you have more trash than can fit in your black bin, use a blue plastic Town of Hamilton bag. These bags are available for purchase at Crosby’s Marketplace, Aubuchon Hardware, and the Hamilton Convenience Store.

  • There is no limit to the number of blue bags you can place curbside.
  • Roll of 5 – 33 gallon bags: $12.50 ($2.50 per bag) / Roll of 5 – 15 gallon bags: $7.50 ($1.50 per bag)

Bulky Items Sticker: If you have an item that doesn’t fit in your regular trash bin, you can have it collected curbside with a bulky item sticker. Each sticker costs $15 per item and can be purchased at Crosby’s Marketplace or the Hamilton Convenience Store. Please note that bulky item stickers are not available at the DPW.

  • Once you purchase a sticker, simply attach it to the bulky item you want to dispose of.
  • You can place one bulky item curbside for pickup each week, alongside your regular trash.
  • No reservation is needed.

Mattress Disposal

Mass State rules require mattresses and box springs be kept out of the trash, so they can be recycled or donated for reuse.

Residents must purchase a “Mattress Bulk Sticker” in the amount of $30 for each mattress or box spring through the SPW. Payments should be made by-check and should be made out to the Hamilton DPW. During 2024-25 Town Hall renovations, mattress sticker purchases are by-appointment-only. Please call the DPW at 978-626-5227 or email [email protected] to schedule appointment.

The Hamilton DPW will provide Casella Waste the listing of addresses requesting mattress pick-up for every other Thursday. Please purchase stickers by the Wednesday before, cutoff date will be at Noon. Residents not listed with the DPW will not have their mattress collected.

Electronic Waste/Metal Appliances & Furniture/Misc.

Old electronic items (computers, TVs, printers, etc.), metal appliances and furniture (washer, dryer, barbecue grill, lawnmower, air conditioners, filing cabinets, etc.) and a number of other miscellaneous items (tires) can be disposed of the third Saturday of every month from 8 A.M. to 12 P.M. (severe weather permitting) at the DPW Yard located behind Town Hall. There is a disposal fee that varies according to the item. Please click here for a list of items accepted and the amount charged. Checks are the only form of payment accepted. Please email DPW during Town Hall renovations for alternate location when available.

Black Bins

Hamilton provides every household one 35-gallon black bin that can be used weekly to dispose of trash. The lid should be closed completely with no trash peeking out, and the bin must weigh no-more than 50 lbs. Haulers are instructed to leave surplus trash behind with an orange “rejected” notice.

Yard waste, electronics, bulky items and hazardous waste are not permitted in the black bin and are not collected as part of the Town’s free trash collection service.

All residents are encouraged to mark their bins prominently with their address. If your black bin has been damaged due to storms, misuse or accident, you may obtain a replacement from the DPW Office. You must bring the old bin to the DPW in order to receive the replacement. Please email for replacement bins.
