Citizens Police Academy
The Hamilton Police Department is pleased to announce the commencement of its next Citizens Police Academy. The academy will be held on ten consecutive Tuesday nights from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm beginning September 17, 2024 and concluding on November 19, 2024.
The Citizen Police Academy is designed to familiarize citizens with the operation and functions of the Hamilton Police Department, Communications Center and Fire Department. Classes cover various topics such as: Criminal Law, Patrol Procedures, Evidence Collection, Domestic Violence, Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Court Procedures, and Use of Force. Additionally, participants complete a 2 hour police ride along. The ride along portion of the program gives students a firsthand experience as to what police patrol looks like. Courses will be taught by Hamilton Police Officers, Police Supervisors, Hamilton Fire Fighters and Dispatch personnel.
There is no charge to attend, however, you must be 18 years or older. The class is limited to 20 applicants. An application is available HERE or one may be picked up at the Hamilton Police Department, 265 Bay Rd. Preference is given to Hamilton residents.
