The Town of Hamilton has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its Fiscal Year 2026 budget report.
This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and represents a significant achievement by the Town. It reflects Hamilton’s commitment to the highest principles of sound financial management.
To receive the award, Hamilton’s budget was evaluated against nationally recognized guidelines and had to demonstrate excellence in four key areas:
- As a policy document
- As a financial plan
- As an operations guide
- As a communications device
Hamilton joins more than 1,700 entities across North America in the GFOA’s Budget Awards Program. Recipients are recognized as leaders in governmental budgeting and serve as models for other communities working to improve the quality and effectiveness of their financial documents.
“This is the first time that we have entered our annual budget document to GFOA for consideration and review,” said Town Manager Joe Domelowicz. “We are pleased that the efforts of our department heads, boards, and committees have been recognized in this category.”
Earlier this year, the Town of Hamilton released its 2024 Annual Report & FY 2026 Budget as a newly integrated document. This effort was undertaken to provide residents with a more accessible and comprehensive overview of municipal operations and financial planning. By merging the Annual Report and Budget, the Town aimed to enhance internal efficiency, reduces production costs, and support the Town’s broader goals of transparency, sustainability, and fiscal responsibility.
