Dog Licenses
Dog Licenses M.G.L. Chapter 140, Sec. 137 and 137A
Per Massachusetts state law, all dogs six months of age and older must be licensed in the town in which they reside. In Hamilton, the annual licensing period is April 1 – March 31. For your convenience and ours, an application form is mailed in early January with the annual town Street List/Census form. Evidence of a current rabies vaccination must be provided to the Clerk’s Office prior to issuance of the license. Intact males and females $20.; Neutered males and spayed females $15; owners over 70 years of age are granted the first dog license at no charge. Beginning in June, late fees are assessed and again in August late fees increase. Click here for the application and more information.
Please note that new dogs being licensed for the first time after June are not subject to a late fee. Please call the Clerk’s office (978-468-5570 x 3) if registering online so that we can be sure the online system does not assess a late fee.
To register online through City Hall Systems: https://epay.cityhallsystems.com/selection The online system requires that you upload proof of neuter/spay and proof of rabies. The dog license(s) and tag(s) will be mailed to you.
To request via mail: Complete the Application for Dog License Form (see “Click here” above) and mail it with a check (payable to “Town of Hamilton”) and rabies certificate to: Town Clerk, Hamilton Town Hall, PO Box 429, Hamilton, MA 01936. We will mail the license, tag, and the rabies certificate to you.
You may also come in-person to the Clerk’s Office, especially if you have any questions.
