The Hamilton Select Board has officially approved the scheduling of a Special Town Meeting to be held on Monday, July 14, 2025, at 6:30 P.M. The meeting will take place at the Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School auditorium, located at 775 Bay Road in Hamilton. To ensure residents are informed and prepared, we will continue to share details on this important event to this page.

Voting at STM is in-person only. All registered voters in the Town of Hamilton are encouraged to attend. The primary topic anticipated for discussion and a potential vote is the proposed zoning changes related to the Town Center (Route 1A) area. 

Check-In

  • Check-in opens at 5 P.M.
  • Electronic clickers will be assigned at check-in. 

Warrant

  • The Warrant will be posted to the Hamilton website on June 30 2025. 
  • Residents should bring a copy of the Warrant to the meeting.

Anticipated Key Warrant Articles

In January 2021, the Massachusetts Legislature adopted an Economic Development Bond Bill (H.5250) that made changes to the state’s Zoning Act. The “Housing Choice” sections of the bill required each municipality in the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) service area to zone for multifamily housing by right.

Transportation Assistance

Cape Ann Transportation Authority, CATA, rides may be scheduled in advance by calling CATA Dispatch: 978-283-7916 or calling the Hamilton COA. The Hamilton COA is able to assist with account creation for CATA.

Accommodations

In Massachusetts, towns must provide reasonable accommodations at special town meetings to ensure accessibility for individuals with disabilities, as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The Town of Hamilton is committed to hosting accessible meetings and to ensure that Special Town Meetings are accessible. Requests for reasonable accommodations can be made prior to a Town Meeting session. Hamilton’s ADA Coordinator is Richard Maloney. Requests for accommodations must be requested in advance.
